Sweet and Sour Pork

Pork isn’t my favorite type of meat. However, we found it on sale last week, so I needed to find a way to make it yummy! I went to which is a web site where you type in the groceries you have and they list out all the meals you can make with what’s in your kitchen! I love this site! Here’s what it came up with. It was so easy and so cheap because we used what we had!

Sweet and Sour Pork

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup chili sauce

4-6 pork chops

Mix honey, soy and chili sauce. Place chops in a 3-quart casserole dish that has been sprayed w/ cooking spray. Cover with mixture. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. It is so easy and delicious!

I paired it with rice, a bed of spinach, fresh tomatoes and cubes of mozzarella cheese with a balsamic, oregano and basil dressing. Hope you enjoy today’s recipe! I think we will do desserts next week…let me know if you have a newlywed friendly dessert recipe that you would want to share. :)

Barbecue Chicken Pizza

My whole life I have heard the rule, “Never make a new recipe if you have company coming!”

Well, today I would like to say:

Dear Whomever made up that rule,
What’s a newlywed girl to do?!? She has no “old” recipes!
Yours truly,

Far from Martha

So, what I’ve learned recently, is to just be a copy-cat. Anything I taste that tastes tasty, I copy it down and serve it up! Here’s a yummy recipe I just learned from my mother-in-law:

BBQ Chicken Pizza

  • Boneless Chicken breasts (It tastes AMAZING and is super-easy if you use a rotisserie chicken-usually on sale at Aldi or Walmart)
  • Sliced fresh mushrooms
  • Red onion
  • Roma tomatoes
  • BBQ Sauce (on sale now at Walmart for $1, Piggly Wiggly for .89!)
  • Smoked Gouda cheese (usually find it in case in deli near gourmet cheeses)
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Grated parmesan
  • Pizza crust of your choice (Tastes awesome with Boboli’s pre-made crust)

Slice your mushrooms and onions and sauté separately until done or put in foil on the grill with a pat of butter until done. Grill your chicken breasts and cut up in small pieces or take all the meat off the rotisserie chicken.

Layer your pizza as follows: Crust, BBQ sauce, chicken, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, Gouda cheese, mozzarella cheese. Bake or grill pizza until cheese is melted. Top with Parmesan!

If you try it out, let me know what you think!
