In Loving Memory of…

This post is written in loving memory of food and the the few days we spent attempting to live off the land…

You see, Joel’s family and I spent a lovely evening (depending on who you ask) picking 25 pounds of green beans, we spent a day stringing, blanching and packaging them to prepare for freezing.

The following day, my dear friend Elizabeth and I braved the heat of the Columbia sun to gather our own yummy berries for freezing.

Not to mention, our freezer was stocked with some trout, venison, chicken, ground turkey, etc from Joel and his dad’s hunting and fishing and extra freezer meals from days of cooking.

So, since the fridge/freezer went kaput (still speechlessly grateful for our precious neighbors came to the rescue!) and our food followed suite, I thought I could at least remember the fun memories made while gathering it!

After all, 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes (my current translation: clothes and furniture, and hard-wood floors and rugs and curtains and that are all tainted by the perfumer of the freezer)? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 5:25-26)

DIYing

Originally, our kitchen looked like this…

Then it looked like that…

Also there was this…

And now that…

We didn’t exactly think about how high the bar top should be when the stove island was re-purposed into an eating area…thus we ended up having a bar so high that we couldn’t ever find bar stools to fit! Oops.

Not to fear…Joel Hurdle and some wood are here.

After a year of looking at wood, I knew we needed a little change.

Thankfully, now are bar stools look like this…

And the kitchen looks like that!

Yay! I think all our DIYing is over for a while, now that students are here…I have one more project in mind…maybe it will be conquered over Fall Break? :)
