Joel and I have various responsibilities with our job. Leading Bible studies, prayer meetings, doing evangelism, planning and organizing conferences and events, etc. One role that we have is to train our interns here on campus. Joel trains Danny (far left–who I am going to get a story from soon!) And I train Kaitlyn and Erin (far left).
This fun story from Erin’s ministry may be included on our next prayer letter, but here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting things God is doing indirectly through Joel and me ministry here at USC. Praise Him!
Starbucks with Ashley … I (Erin) often get together with my students in the Starbucks on campus at USC. I call it my office. :) I was meeting with a girl I had never been introduced to before. She was a freshman in Patterson, the dorm where I lead a Bible Study. After some small talk about her sorority and schoolwork, I asked Ashley about her spiritual background. She told me that her family had occasionally visited church, but it was not a big part of her life growing up.
Then, I asked her a question that I ask all the girls I meet with. It helps reveal whether they know Jesus or not.. I asked, “If you were to die and you were before the Lord, and He were to ask you, ‘Why should I let you in to my Heaven?,’ what would you say?” Typical answers include “I’m a good person,” “I don’t know,” or of course the right answer, “I would say that I believe in Jesus, and He has saved me from my sins.” But Ashley’s answer took me aback. With tears in her eyes she said, “I don’t know what I would say to Him, but I really want to know!”
Almost brought to tears myself, I told her I had something I wanted to share with her. For the next 30 minutes I walked her through the gospel by using a little booklet Campus Crusade produces called “Would you like to know God personally?” She continued to get emotional as we talked, and as we finished up, she told me she wanted to take the booklet back and read over it some more. She gave me a big hug and thanked me for sharing that with her. She said no one had ever explained the gospel to her in that way before.
Thanks again for helping me to get to do this everyday! Please pray for Ashley as she searches out answers, that the Lord would continue to make Himself known to her. And pray for me that I will continue to seek out girls who need to hear the Truth.
For His Kingdom,
